0:34.3	but for these worlds to keep them, we may need to give them magnetospheres as well.
0:39.3	So a popular topic in science, science fiction, and on this show is terraforming of models.
1:01.9	This comes in two forms, parateroforming, which is the classic big domes with air and life inside,
1:08.8	and terraforming the world entirely to have its own atmosphere
1:11.9	and seas that can be naturally retained in sport life. Now you've probably heard theories
1:17.7	that Mars used to have air and seas and lost them over time, and many corporates are suggested,
1:23.6	but the two big ones are the low gravity on Mars and its lack of a magnetosphere.
1:29.1	These two, plus some others, are not either or cases.
1:33.2	Indeed, Mars' low gravity and lack of magnetosphere are related issues, and both doubtless
1:38.3	contributed to losing an atmosphere if it used to have one, and more importantly, are
1:42.7	problems for giving an atmosphere in the
1:44.7	future and keeping it on there. Needless to say, our big focus for today is going to be
1:50.4	on the magnetosphere component, but to explain why Mars needs one, or a substitute, we need to explain
