Summary

As Jesus is betrayed, arrested, and faces a sham trial, we find four key players with four very different mindsets within the narrative. As we watch these events unfold in Matthew 26:55-75, we see what these people were thinking about Jesus while we also examine our own minds, hearts, and motives concerning Him.

In Matthew chapter 26, we didn't quite finish the chapter on Wednesday, and we've been moseying

0:06.7

through Matthew, and I need to pick up the pace. If we're going to be on a 15-year pace through the Bible,

0:12.5

I've got to pick it up. So I'm going to tackle the rest of this chapter this morning,

0:17.5

if you'd allow me, as we would on a Wednesday night. If you've never been to a

0:20.8

Wednesday night, this is kind of how we roll, verse by verse, and just kind of talk through the

0:25.4

scriptures. And so we're going to pick up where we left off in Matthew 26. This chapter is

0:31.8

deep and rich, and you really could spend years talking about all the things that are going on in this chapter.

But I even kind of ran out of time.

I should have really, if I was going to really tie it up better on Wednesday night,

0:46.5

I would have done two more verses because it was sort of connected more to what was happening

0:51.1

in the earlier part of the chapter.

0:52.8

Of course, we left off in the

Garden of Gassimony where Jesus was being apprehended by the Roman soldiers and the high priest

servants and that whole thing. Peter pulls out his sword and chops off Malkis the high priest's

1:07.8

ear. Jesus sticks it back on the side of his head, heals that guy.

1:13.2

That's in that other gospel, not in Matthew as much.

1:15.7

But what we saw is that Jesus would be, he knew, one of the themes I want us to remember

1:23.9

here in Matthew 26 is he knew what was going on.

1:26.3

He wasn't surprised by anything. He seems to know every detail. He wasn't fighting or resisting arrest, but he was calling

1:33.3

it out. This is that which was spoken up by the prophet. Like he's saying, this is what,

1:37.0

see, this is happening just like the Old Testament Bible said. And that's one of the things that

1:41.5

I want us to note. But we saw, you know, after Peter put away his sword,
