Summary
This podcast was started to amplify voices in healthcare that are advocating for change. Today, we are doing just that as Danielle welcomes back nurse Sonja Mitrevska, who is advocating for the 1700 nurses on strike in New Jersey. These nurses are simply asking for enforceable staffing guidelines—something that matters enough for them to walk out of the hospital, understanding full well the gravity of that decision. This is a global crisis with no end in sight—as Nurse Sonja says, it is a "litmus test for how modern-day healthcare will continue to railroad staff if they don’t stand together.” Healthcare is not sustainable as it stands today, but people chose to remain silent because it’s safer. Nurse Sonja takes the time to sit down with Danielle in the hopes that even one person feels empowered to start asking questions.Â
To show your support, you can call Assembly Man Craig Coughlin at 732-855-7441 and ask for Bill S304 to be passed (mandates safe staffing ratios). Be sure to follow Sonja @nursesonja and @rwjnursesunited for the latest updates on the strike and check their link in bio for additional ways to support. Â
