personal life. A couple decades back now I was in grad school in Belgium when two of my friends

were shot and killed in a road rage incident back in the US. And right about that time I happened

people shot and killed. And to me it was like I thought it was a typo. It was such a staggeringly

large number. But it's not and in fact we still have over 30,000 people being shot and killed in

this country every year. And that struck me as like something fundamentally messed up with the world.
