Good Sunday evening slash Monday morning to you all.

0:03.7

I'm actually impressed with myself that I can even approximate what time it is at the moment since my day began on a Sunday morning that was over 24 hours ago.

0:14.8

But I am back now from Japan. I was able to keep up, watch some games on Synergy. So we are ready to go and some news has piled up since Danny was kind enough to update us last time if you haven't yet.

0:26.6

By the way, listen to a couple of evergreen pods that we did last week. One is the all area teams that was really, really fun to put together went through and did a 16 team tournament of seven game series for the 16 best areas in the United States as much as we could determine that was fun.

0:45.9

And then we also redrafted the 2017 draft class. That was quite interesting as well. Still a lot of uncertainty there to be sure.

0:53.8

So now that I back where should we start here news wise.

0:57.8

I think we should start in the Pacific Northwest with the forward franchise there. Yeah, with the forward shortage in Portland due to Zach Collins being out.

1:07.3

Neil O'Shea turned in a surprising some could say interesting direction with one Carmelo Anthony.

1:13.5

Yeah, it's interesting. This is the second time that a jilted Anthony pursuer has eventually landed him. Hopefully this will not be a repeat of the situation in Houston.

1:24.8

So Anthony, we know what he brings to the table, right? Some isolation scoring some spot up shooting. He did not shoot it as well as a spot up player.

1:33.0

Once he really moved into an off ball role in OKC and then his limited time in Houston that we probably can't draw that much from he could still maybe provide them with some ISO scoring rebounding has been a problem for them.

1:45.0

Carmelo has been a decent rebounder at times in his career again. Given his age, it's hard to say where he's going to be at from athleticism standpoint.

1:53.4

But Portland could maybe use one more guy who can create I mean that that ISO game is something that they haven't had. I don't think it'd be the end of the world to actually let him go to work a little bit on second units.

2:04.7

And to provide some kind of spot up shooting and size at the power for position that they just really needed.

2:10.5

Now one concern that I have is that Nissier little I mean he hasn't scored well, but he at least has provided some energy and starts at that position the last two games.

2:18.5

So hopefully he's not going to just get completely eliminated here unless he just continues to struggle unsustainably bad way from three defensively though obviously he ain't going to cure what else.

2:30.2

Exactly and that's why I'm very low on this signing mellows already turn 35 and wasn't a good defender in his physical prime and now especially if he's playing the four next to us on white side mobility is a big big problem.

2:43.9

And then I mean so you look at what Portland this year so that currently as we're recording this there 18th and defense they are forth from the bottom enforcing turnovers definitely not a combo and then he strength they are dead last in opponent free throw attempt rate.

2:57.6

I don't think Bell is going to help that at all especially because he doesn't provide any room protection. Maybe he does that kind of reverse thing if they foul less just because he doesn't do anything.

3:04.6

And then maybe he helps a little bit on the defensive glass just because they've been playing so small and so he's bigger than let's say runny hood and then they've been pretty solid and if I feel go percentage I a little bit skeptical of that number personally.

3:16.8

So I mean Portland I think their offense is just going to be better than than they've been so far and there could be times when having him out there is helpful but those times are not you know taking possessions away from Damien Lourd who has been fantastic this year.

3:30.1

It's going to be more sustaining that second unit my concern with mellow is that I mean this goes back to some of the unit I've talked about before which is what he is best that is something that players often overrate and so I think sometimes coaches can get into that too of like oh he can get a basket one on one even though he doesn't do it superficially and I think that there is a potential role for Camel both with the blazer specifically and in the NBA in the abstract the problem is that when you extend him beyond that role the negative start out way the positives pretty quickly.
