Live from late capitalism where we know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

This is hell while pundits and government officials tell you how much things cost, how many billions it takes to provide the public service, the public with services they desperately need.

What is rarely discussed is the value of those services, the necessity of those services.

Sure, there is lots of talk about how much cutting this program or that program will save taxpayers

will help to cut the deficit or national debt, but how those services will directly impact

lives is often ignored. Also rarely mentioned is the cost to society. When those services

are cut, how they can lead to child malnourishment, poverty,

disease, and threat to their health and lives. What's not mentioned is their impact on

inequality and how they can provide for those who understand that for them, at least, the

American dream is only a mere fantasy.

That in our institutionally and structurally racist and unequal country,

such cost-cutting can destroy lives from the outset even before kids have a chance at life.

And for what? So billionaires can hoard billions more while the rest of us suffer?

So wars will be funded, but schools and hospitals back home won't and might even be shut down?

With yet another pandemic increasingly likely, what would such measures mean for public health?

And a nation that had the highest number of deaths in the world from

COVID outpacing the next country by nearly a half a million deaths.
