Just over two weeks ago, Maersk, the Danish shipping giant,

announced it was pausing all journeys through the Red Sea

after Huthi rebels based in Yemen stepped up their attacks on vessels in the area.

The Huthis, which are backed by Iran and support Hamas, said they were targeting ships which they believed were heading for Israel.

The Red Sea is a key shipping route because it gives access to the sewers canal.

To avoid the threat, Mersk and other companies have been redirecting some ships all the way around Africa,

adding many days to their journey.

But now Mersk has said it will resume Red Sea operations

after a US-led coalition sent warships to patrol the area. I spoke to our business

reporter Jonathan Josephs.

Mersk have decided that they can now sail through the Red Sea

and the Sioux Canal because of the safety guarantees
