We had a broken home. Her mom and my dad had split up. Then my mom and dad had split up and you can go on and have a happy life. But you do feel some

aftershock of when that happened. And I think she was upset with herself and some why she was a teen mom. I mean she was not

teen when she got pregnant. And that makes it hard on you. And she was very very lockable. Just funny. She was a good time and just she was a real hard person not to

collapse. You know, you just enjoy being around her. But she did have more of a follower quality to her than a leader. And I think that was a major downfall of hers. She just she couldn't say no.

In May of 2015, 24 year old Madeline Tomlin disappeared from Hope, Arkansas about a month shy of her 25th birthday. Madeline had two young sons, but she had hit a rough patch in her life. And her sons were being cared for primarily by other family members. Though Madeline stayed involved in their lives and always checked in on them. So when her grandparents stopped hearing from Madeline, they knew that something was wrong and decided to report Madeline missing.

They hope that Madeline would turn up, but the days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months with no word from Madeline. And now nearly eight years later, Madeline is still missing and her sisters are hoping that someone listening will come forward with the answers.

Many of the stories we share with you on the vanished are not easy stories to tell. Our society has a fixation with true crime stories where the victim is perceived as perfect.

They had everything going for them in life, until some terrible twist of fate ripped it all away in an instant.

We have television shows dedicated to telling those types of stories, and they stick to a predictable formula.

With descriptions like she was beautiful, she lit up every room she walked into, she was successful, she was essentially flawless.

Those are the stories that we see told over and over. But the reality is that that demographic does not represent most victims of crime or missing persons.

Most of us aren't perfect people. We all have some skeletons in our closet. Things we would prefer stay hidden from the public.

That is why for the last seven years, we have made it part of our mission to cover people from all walks of life, and not just the most sensational of stories.

And these stories are often the most difficult ones to tell. When you start digging into the history of a missing person who didn't have a perfect life, you will often find lots of trauma.

Perhaps the person engaged in some sort of high-risk behavior, but no matter what, they didn't deserve to disappear forever, and their stories deserve to be told.
