She holds a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master’s in Liturgical Studies from the Liturgical Institute. Her book, The Glory of God's Grace: Deification according to St. Thomas Aquinas, was published by Sapientia Press in 2015. She has published 10 scholarly articles in Nova et Vetera, Cistercian Studies and the Journal of Moral Theology, and chapters in several edited volumes, including Aquinas on Initiation and Mystagogy (Peeters, 2019), Reading Job with St. Thomas Aquinas (CUA Press, 2020), Thomas Aquinas, Biblical Theologian (Emmaus Academic, 2021), and Thomas Aquinas and the Crisis of Christology (Sapientia Press, 2021). Among other projects, she is currently coediting a volume, Christ, the Wisdom of God in the Thought of St. Thomas Aquinas.

know about deification. So what I'd like to do now is to reflect together in a little bit more depth about the ordinary way that

God has provided for us to get deified. That is through the sacraments in the church's liturgy.

So the liturgy is really the privileged way in which God fulfills the great and precious promises he makes us

to make us share in the divine nature.

So first, I want to say a little bit about what liturgy is.

I'm sure you've heard this word around the Thomistic Institute before.

In a basic way, it means the church's public worship.

So all the stuff we do in church as the body of Christ,

the celebration of sacraments like the Eucharist and baptism,

and also the literature of the hours, the divine office.

And because Christ is the head of his body, the church, every liturgy is celebrated by Christ

the head and all his members.

That is all the baptized.

So it's really Christ, you could say, who is the main celebrant.

He is the great high priest at every liturgy.

He's the one working in and through the ministers, through the priest, and through the people.
