Once again, it's time for our annual holiday special episode, which won't contain any current market perspectives because it was pre-produced several weeks ago to give our production team time with their families over the holidays.

This year's topic,

what gives with all the high-profile people such as fund manager Peter Thiel, hedge fund legend Julian Robertson, Google co-founder Larry Page, Hollywood celebrity James Cameron, why are all

these super high-profile people either moving to New Zealand or

obtaining resident visas there? The conspiracy theorists are already asking whether they have

some sort of secret inside information, that the end of the world is near, so they're moving

to New Zealand to survive the coming nuclear winter? Well, researching this topic has been absolutely

fascinating for me. At first, I convinced myself that these people really do know something we don't,

but that something has nothing to do with the end of the world. What I thought they must have

all discovered was the four-year tax holiday on all foreign-sourced

income that New Zealand automatically grants to all new residents, and the fact that New Zealand

has no broad-based capital gains tax, even after that four-year tax holiday ends.

At first, I was sure that must be the explanation for why all these wealthy

people were migrating to such a distant country. But as you'll hear from my first guest in this

episode, that's not it at all. In fact, further research proved to me that almost nobody

immigrating to New Zealand even knows about the four-year tax holiday
