Summary

Nathan MacKinnon nets the shootout winner for the Colorado Avalanche as they go 3 for 3 with Necas and Nichushkin also scoring. Those would be the only times a forward found the back of the net as Sam Malinski would be the Avs only goalscorer in regulation. This was somehow enough to beat Edmonton. 📬 Denver sports in your inbox: https://thednvr.com/newsletter An ALLCITY Network Production PARTY WITH US: https://thednvr.com/events ALL THINGS DNVR: https://linktr.ee/dnvrsports BALL-KNOWER BONUS/Merch: https://promotion.allcitynetwork.com/all SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/DNVR_Sports BUY GOLDEN ERA: Golden Era | Triumph Books Raising Cane’s Rooftop Fridays: https://thednvr.com/event/friday-rooftop-club-at-coors-field-presented-by-raising-canes/ Toyota: Visit Your Front Range Toyota Stores at a location near you - Toyota is the official vehicle of DNVR. So it's the end of the season and you finally figured out how to do a shootout, huh? Aves win over the Edmonton Oilers, 2 to 1 in the shootout. Look, I don't think there's a ton to take away from this game good or bad. If we're being honest about it, it just didn't mean a whole lot to the abs. They were even willing to sit dudes right before the game. Lekhinen ends up being a scratch for this one. I'm not going to overthink it.

0:22.3

They're resting dudes.

0:23.3

I'm sure of it.

0:24.1

But that leaves the abs with a limited lineup, and they still manage to go out and beat an Oilers team that was, I don't know how much they were in it, but they're at least still playing for something in the Pacific Division, that something may well be second place so they

0:38.4

don't have to play Utah in the first round.

0:40.4

But honestly, the Avs gave a pretty good effort for a game that didn't matter.

0:44.1

Yes, there were times where they were unengaged, and players like the Av's second

0:47.8

line seemed completely uninterested in playing the correct way of hockey to actually win,

0:53.0

but they still managed to get there. So just don't put too much stock in the good or bad that I'm about to talk about in this hockey game. Let's start with the bad, because I don't think there's very much of that. The main one being the a V's did not get a goal in regulation from their forwards again for the second game in a row. That's too long to go without a forward scoring a goal.

1:13.0

They watched their power play go over, but I don't think that's a real bad for a couple

1:17.6

of reasons, one being they're missing multiple pieces that would be on their power play unit

1:22.3

and the other will get to an overtime.

1:24.4

That's really kind of it.

1:25.9

I do wish the abs would do a better job of holding onto their leads, I guess, if we're

1:29.5

really digging for negatives to actually take out of this game.

1:32.7

On the good side, despite the abs not finding goals from forwards, their depth forwards continue

1:37.7

to be really good, or rather, I should say, their fourth line.

1:41.6

It is consistently a possession monster every single night,

1:45.2

kind of regardless of who's on it. They just make it work. They're middle six less so, but I think

1:50.0

they're far more affected by guys being out of the abs lineup than any other portion of the

1:54.2

abs lineup. And while it's not the fourth line of scoring a goal, it is some of those depth

1:58.3

forwards getting involved in the goal, and Sam Malinski
