Sometimes we come across stories that are incredible, but they're very short. So I like to compile a few of these into one episode and that's what today's episode's going to be.

All right. I'm going to call this short but deadly.

So let's start with Michael Anderson Sloan.

This might be one of the most ironic stories

that I've ever heard.

So let's talk a little bit about Michael's legal issues. In 1980, Michael, who was then 21 years old, was living in South Carolina.

He was charged with murdering Mary Elizabeth, I think her name is Royin.

Mm-hmm. That wasn't very nice. Well, Michael was no stranger to the criminal system, as we'll say.

In fact, he had been arrested in 1977 for robbing a woman at knife point. While he was in jail on that particular

crime he was permitted to leave prison on work release.

And it was during one of these supposed work days

when he sexually assaulted and murdered Mary Elizabeth Royan.

Aren't they supposed to be watched if they're out on work leave? No, I mean, I think they're supposed to check in, they're supposed to do all that stuff but they leave at a certain
