Where are Apple and China Mobile in terms of making a deal for the iPhone?

Kind of sounds like nowhere near it.

A couple of sites had China Mobile President Lee Yu speaking about the iPhone yesterday.

First End gadget has the exact saying that the two companies have been in talks to bring

Apple's answer to telephony to China Mobile 700 million subscribers since

2009.

I know Rome wasn't built in the day, but wow, three years later and still no deal. The exact says negotiations became more intimate in the past year, but it's hard to know what that means exactly.

Quoting Lee, you, technology is a problem, but it isn't the entire problem there's also mainly the

issue of business model and mutual benefits that could mean subsidy issues it could

mean ownership of the app store heck it could be just about anything.

And yet it seems he doesn't sound too discouraging.

A separate piece on Lee's iPhone talk from Apple Insider has him saying we look forward to working hand in hand

with Apple. Maybe he's trying to sound encouraging because he's genuinely encouraged

or maybe he's trying to sound encouraging because he doesn't want to lose any customers to smaller rivals China Unicom and China Telecom

Both of which have the iPhone not that China Mobile couldn't afford to lose some customers, they're the biggest wireless carrier
