At least one financial analyst expects the upcoming holidays to be iPhone holidays.

Fortune had Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster issuing a note on Thursday, noting the drawing together of supply and demand

for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.

Oh, there's still more demand than supply to be sure, but the two are drawing closer together.

Fortune says most analysts rely on Apple's online store to track iPhone availability

though Mr Munster prefers a more in-depth look.

According to the piece, he or his staff have started checking which of the 12 configurations

of iPhone 6 and 6-plus are available for same day in-store pickup at 80 Apple stores across the US.

He is nothing if not obsessive. I mean thorough.

Munster and Company have done this twice, once four weeks after the iPhone six line became available in the States, and again, eight weeks after, four weeks out, he found 8% availability at the 80 Apple stores.

Four weeks later, that percentage was up to 58%.

Significantly better.

And kind of a weird mixed message number.

Munster says at this point he'd have expected closer to 80% availability.

The indication is that demand for the new iPhones has not fallen off.

But if people are wanting to buy them for the holidays

and cannot find them close to half of the time,
