With the year winding down, believe it or not, Apple decided it had

time for one more thing. Not unlike Apple 1, that one more thing yielded three things, or four, if you count the thing that powers

the other things.

As had been expected, Apple used Tuesdays pre-produced one more thing event to officially begin the

Max transition from Intel processors to Apple Silicon.

First out of the gate, the M1, a system on a chip or SOC that Apple says is

optimized for Apple's most popular low power systems where small size and power efficiency are critically important.

So no I Mac Pro on Tuesday.

Extolling the M1's virtues was Johnny Suruji, Senior VP Hardware Technologies for Apple.

Built employing the 5 nanometer processor, Suruji says the m1 has 16 billion transistors. I'm no

expert but that sounds like a lot. It features an 8-core CPU, geared for high performance, with the other 4 geared for high efficiency.

While the high efficiency cores don't do the heavy lifting,

Suruji says each alone is as powerful as the current dual core Macbook Air.

M1 also features an 8-core GPU

yielding the world's fastest integrated graphics according to Apple.
