On the hardware side, Cult of Max says iPhone made up some ground on its robot brethren in the States last quarter and

pulled even with phones from Samsung. That's according to new estimates from

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners or CIRP.

From April through June, iPhone accounted for 36% of smartphone activations in the U.S.

Samsung also saw 36% of activations.

The next closest phone maker in the States was LG.

It took 12% of the quarters activations.

Mike Levin, partner and co-founder of C-I-R-P, was quoted in the piece as saying,

Apple improved in part at Samsung's expense, whose share of activations declined relative to both last quarter and last year.

In a quarter without any significant phone launches Samsung had market share only equal to apples.

A year ago, Samsung had a considerably greater share of sales.

Despite the neck-in-neck race between Apple and Sammy, the US will stay the home of the Android.
