With all the talk of DOJ and FTC investigations against alphabet, Amazon, Apple, and Facebook, one financial firm is warning of hits to shares in those companies

should things not go their way.

Barons has Goldman Sachs looking back to a few big antitrust cases and noting a down-tick in associated stocks.

Historically, the piece says the industry leading companies targeted by antitrust enforcement

have experienced lower share

valuations as a result sometimes for decades according to Goldman Sachs.

Examples listed. Microsoft stock fell off a cliff when the Justice Department pursued an antitrust case against it in 1998.

It traded at a discount to other tech company shares for years afterward according to the report

and only recovered after formal oversight of the company was lifted in 2011.

In 1984, AT&T was broken up into eight smaller baby companies.

Baron says each of those traded at a discount to the parent for a year afterward
