morning that said Apple was thinking of buying beats, makers of high-end

headphones and owners of a fledgling subscription music service for somewhere in the

Then on Friday came a report from the Wall Street Journal that the deal, if it happens,

Woodsee Beets founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre take senior positions at Apple.

Still nothing official from anyone, of course. That news arrived at the journal, compliments of secret sources. The bulk of the journal piece focused on what

becoming an apple exec would mean for Ayovine. Maybe that's because the journal's secret source

knows more about Ayovine or maybe it's because the changes wouldn't be that big for Dre.

What the piece does say is that Iavine would have to step down from his role as chairman of Interscope Geffen

A&M Records, a division of Vivendi S.A's Universal Music Group, though it sounds like he's

only held that title for the last year and a half without actually doing the job.
