thing, and a fair amount of iPhone news.

E.E. I. Chart magazine, available for iOS Newsstand now. It was a bit more rumoring over Apple's reported plan to buy

Beats Electronics to end last week. For those who miss that rumor, the

Financial Times and a number of other publications hit with the story last Thursday night Friday

morning that said Apple was thinking of buying beats, makers of high-end

headphones and owners of a fledgling subscription music service for somewhere in the

neighborhood of 3.2 billion dollars.

Then on Friday came a report from the Wall Street Journal that the deal, if it happens,

Woodsee Beets founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre take senior positions at Apple.

Still nothing official from anyone, of course. That news arrived at the journal, compliments of secret sources. The bulk of the journal piece focused on what

becoming an apple exec would mean for Ayovine. Maybe that's because the journal's secret source

knows more about Ayovine or maybe it's because the changes wouldn't be that big for Dre.

What the piece does say is that Iavine would have to step down from his role as chairman of Interscope Geffen

A&M Records, a division of Vivendi S.A's Universal Music Group, though it sounds like he's

only held that title for the last year and a half without actually doing the job.

According to the journal Interscope President John Yannick, 35 years old, has for more

than 18 months been overseeing day-to-day operations at the label while Mr. Ayavine focused his attention

on beats and other ventures such as his role on American Idol.
