There may be a new bit of pressure on Apple's latest hire.

Former Burberry CEO Angela Arendt has been tasked with leading

Apple's retail efforts both in meat space and online. What investors and

industry watchers will want to see is growth from Apple's retail arm.

While she may be able to give them that, the optics of growth may have gotten a little harder

to achieve this week, thanks to a decent amount of growth that preceded her arrival.

Kind of.

The Wall Street Journal has new numbers from the trade publication Internet Retailer.

Not surprisingly, Amazon was first in terms of online sales in 2013,

ringing up or virtually ringing up $67.8 billion in sales. Here's where the surprise comes in. Apple was second in

terms of online sales according to internet retailer, ringing up online sales of

18.3 billion dollars. That number represents online sales growth of 24%

year over year. How did Apple accomplish that? Well, it didn't, exactly.

According to the journal, part of the increase in Apple's sales this year came from Internet

Retailers' inclusion of Apple's online hardware sales for the first time in addition to the digital
