Apple is soliciting donations for earthquake relief through the iTunes store.

Mac Rumors says the Cupertino Company has added banners to the iTunes and App Stores,

letting customers donate to the American Red Cross,

which is helping in relief efforts to both Ecuador and Japan.

Ecuador was hit by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the 16th of April.

The death toll there stands at over 500 with injuries numbering in the thousands.

Meanwhile Japan was hit by two quakes, one on the 14th of April and another on the 16th.

While there has been much less loss of life there, the current figure is 48 people dead in Japan,

considerable damage was caused by the events. As it has done for disasters in years past,

Apple is making it easy to donate $5.10, $25, 50, 100 or $200 to the relief efforts. Get right down. Still more supply chain silliness. How fair is the iPhone these days? And the iPhone 5c hack was tots worth it.

What's wrong with watching the supply chain for signs of what's happening with

Apple? One might miss something. On Wednesday, Bloomberg ran a piece saying that

shares of smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm were down.

That was a result of Qualcomm's CEO saying on his company's earnings call that he is assuming

that a major customer will give orders to a rival indicating a potential loss of business for the company.

Quoting the Bloomberg report, analysts said they think the customer is Apple.
