Hey remember that other locked iPhone, the one belonging to an alleged drug dealer in Brooklyn?

Bloomberg offers a bit of a reminder.

Not unlike the case of the San Bernardino iPhone, the piece says the government has sought

Apple's help because self-destruct features on newer iPhones wipe out data if prosecutors try brute

force techniques to hack in. The contents of the

drug dealer's phone were not backed up to remote cloud storage leaving the

physical device is the only source of data the US set.

Just before Apple and the FBI were supposed to meet in the court of magistrate Judge

Sherry Pym over the San Bernardino iPhone and the FBI's use of the All Writs Act to try to get its way, the judge in the

Brooklyn case said the use of the All Ritz Act in that case was inappropriate.

The government did of course appeal that ruling.

While the Brooklyn case is not tied directly to the San Bernardino

case the similarities have not gone unnoticed by anyone. That includes Apple, which does remember that the case in California has been put on hold because the

FBI thinks it has a way of its own into the iPhone thanks to the help of a third

party. That takes us back to Brooklyn where Apple is looking for the same pause button pushed by the government way out west.
