Recognizable faces were few and far between at Monday's event

Well, recognizable faces from Apple anyway.

The two I can remember off the top of my head were Jennifer Bailey, head of Apple Pay, and

Tim Cook, head of Apple.

So much of what was announced was anticipated, and yet it still managed

to surprise on some levels.

We'll start with the thing you can have right now, assuming you don't have the same problem a couple of friends of mine had.

Apple on Monday made its premium news service official.

According to the company's press release, Apple News Plus gives subscribers personalized comprehensive access to over 300 publications within Apple News.

Remember Newsstand? Yeah, it's pretty much like that.

Maybe prettier with beautiful layouts.

My words, not theirs, though they probably did say that too.

And animated covers, as in video not cartoon

though I see no reason that some magazines couldn't be both I'm looking at you

the New Yorker.
