No doubt you know Apple held its first quarter

fiscal year 2018 earnings call yesterday and now we shall recap it.

The call began in an odd way. Nancy Paxson, Apple's senior director, investor

relations and Treasury usually starts with a boilerplate

statement about the call being recorded, who's going to speak, and how Apple assumes no

responsibility to update forward-looking comments between now and the next earnings report.

She had an extra line on Thursday though.

Pointing out that the quarter for which Apple was reporting was only 13 weeks long.

weeks long.

Such a caveat could explain any weakness in numbers,

or it could make impressive performance seem even more impressive.

Mostly, it was the latter.

Then the press release covering earnings, Apple said the company posted quarterly revenue of $88.3 billion, an increase of 13% from the year

ago quarter and an all-time record, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $3.89 up 16% also an all-time record.

On the call, Apple CFO Luca Estri, who said that Apple saw double-digit revenue growth in every geographic

segment they track. They also saw all-time quarterly records in almost every geographic segment, including US Western Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Korea,

mainland China, Latin America, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and India.
