One analyst has lost faith in the restorative power of iPhone.

Or maybe he never had any, and is just now getting around to saying so.

Barons at Barclay's analyst Mark Moskowitz issuing a note on Tuesday cutting both

his rating and his price target on shares of Apple.

While most analysts covering Apple are expecting a return to iPhone growth with the

release of the company's next flagship phone, M&M thinks not, thanks to the deteriorating market for

smartphones. He says current iPhone consumers are doing something he calls mixing down,

choosing to pick up an older model at a savings.

Quoting the analyst, our research indicates that recent smartphone customers

increasingly are opting for the iPhone 6S based model price $100 less than that of iPhone 7.

Well, yeah, but there weren't that many differences between the 6S and 7, right?

Isn't that what analysts have been telling us since about six months before
