Well where were you that day?

I was here. I was at work and I got off and I was heading home on the subway and I just felt this swell of emotion and I started crying.

It was one of those very New York moments when you suddenly realize that everybody on the subway car is in on the feeling and it helped me feel less alone.

The subway pulls into Union Square not my stop but I get off anyway and I'm just following these people who seem like they know where they're going and they seem like they know what they're doing and we come out of the subway into Union Square proper.

The big area that's usually full of vendors and hurry christmas.

Everybody is singing along and dancing along to Michael Jackson and it just felt like the only way to experience that moment.

It felt like the only way to deal with the deep sadness and grief of the news that he died.

But that was 10 years ago.

And to be totally honest with you, you know I haven't really thought about Michael Jackson all that much until relatively recently you and I sat down together and watched the new HBO documentary called Leaving Neverland.

Death Leaving Neverland is a documentary not about Jackson says the filmmaker but the stories of two men who say the pop star sexually abuse them as young children.

That details the stories of two people James Safechuck and Wade Robson.

So now I'm in this moment of experiencing another kind of death in light of what these men say that Michael did to them as children.

There's something about sitting there with this movie which is four hours long and you are bearing witness basically to these two men tell this story of their years of having Michael Jackson be in their lives.

And not just their lives but the lives of their families.

And so you hear from Wade Robson and James Safechuck but you also hear from both men's mothers and Wade Robson's brother and sister and Wade Robson's grandmother.

And you have these people talking about what Michael Jackson met to them all and how in the cases of James and Wade what Michael Jackson did to them.

He was one of the kindest most gentle loving caring people I knew.

He helped me tremendously helped me with my career he helped me with my creativity with all of those sorts of things.

And he also sexually abused me for seven years.
