Summary

Phil and David enjoy a warm and witty conversation and a tasty Tex-Mex lunch with the legendary Texas singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett in his home in the Austin area. Lunch is delivered from Julio's Cafe by the highly overqualified Terry Lickona of "Austin City Limits" fame. Then Country Music superstar Brad Paisley calls in to "Naked Lunch" so that Phil & David can set up a playdate between the two singer-songwriters who are longtime mutual admirers, but have never met. Lyle reveals how finally becoming a father five years ago impacted his excellent new album "12th of June" and retraces his fascinating and impressive life as a genre-bending recording artist as well as what it takes to actually lead and feed a Large Band. 0:06.0	Very appropriately, we have one of the greatest singer-songwriters in Texas or any other state of mind.

0:16.0	And the way I met Lyle was when he was starting out, I was starting out at Rolling Stone,
0:22.0	and I went to review this new guy at the bottom line, and he was so good,
0:26.7	I went in the next day to Jan Wenner and said,
0:28.6	I'm just going on the bus with this guy, and I'm going to write about him.
0:32.3	And I don't think there's many songwriters, singer-songwriters,
0:36.4	where I played that much of a role in sort of helping them get initial attention.

0:42.1	He was, I was an early adapter of Lyle Lovett.
0:47.4	So he's going to treat us well, then?
0:49.7	Well, he's treating us well because he was not even, he wasn't in Austin.
0:53.6	He drove from another part of Texas across Texas just to meet with us.
0:58.8	And we couldn't be, I couldn't be more thrilled because even though we're friends forever,
1:04.4	especially with the way it's been with COVID and all, I haven't seen him in years.
1:08.6	Yeah.
1:08.8	And we're going to now go to the house.
1:11.0	And when I met him, we were both wild and crazy single guy.
1:15.7	And now, it's great to see Lyle settle down.
