We have something really short and beautiful for you today.

About a year ago, I found my new favorite piece of audio.

It's from Alex Kaim, a Chicago-based producer who regularly contributes to Here Be Monsters.

He sent me this bit of audio from his friend Carlos, who used to dig graves out in Washington State.

And I think this short clip speaks for itself.

One of the things I remember about the dirt was how good it was.

And it may have been bad for agriculture, but I remember it was good dirt. It was good, no nonsense dirt.

The way that a shovel would cut into it was solid, but it was airy. It's a little bit light.

You could squeeze it between your fingers and feel a little bit of the clay but it still had

you know just a little bit of a little bit of grit to it a little bit of not too much

sand but just a little bit of silt. And I remember how comfortable graves seemed. I mean you get you

get down you dig down that four or five feet and it was it was comfortable.

It was cozy.

Almost almost kind of claustroph, but not. I mean definitely a cozy feeling kind of hugs you a little bit. Number one. I remember one time laying down inside of a grave.

Very different perspective, laying in a grave while you're still alive.

It made it tangible being able to look up at the sky and just thinking about this is where people come to rest.

And I got to be there a little bit

It's like I got to sleep in in somebody's bed

Kind of like a womb right?

Like a nice soft comfortable death womb.
