It's all about L-Cross, and even kids are joining the search for water on the moon this week

I'm Matt Kaplan of the Planetary Society. It's slightly past 4.30 in the morning, Friday,

October 9 at the NASA Ames Research Center in California. The huge El-Cross-Sentar rocket stage has just

smacked into Cabayas crater at the Moon South Pole. Another spacecraft is

following just four minutes behind. Here is its last minute of life, the most critical moments in the mission.

These are... Stand by for Shepherding Spacecraft Impact.

The very last seconds of the Shepherding spacecraft trajectory as it approaches the

lunar surface. We are seeing very small craters within the crater. We confirm a thermal

signature of the crater in our mid-hour cameras.

The shepherding spacecraft has hit the surface of the moon and this marks the end of the

L-Cross flight mission.

That was the end for the L-Cross- Observsatellite spacecraft, but only the beginning of what they would reveal to all of us back here

on Earth.
