Summary

We are featuring this as part of our February, 'Causes We Love' series, which spotlights people and charitable giving that Lee Harris Energy supports throughout the year. Dance to Be Free is a non-profit organization whose mission is to radically improve the lives of incarcerated women through the healing power of dance. Originally released in July 2020, this is an encore show. Lucy Wallace is a Boulder-based dance instructor who founded this incredible program. With a Master's Degree in Transpersonal Psychology, she designs her high energy classes to help women move and feel safe in their bodies again. To empower women and promote further healing, she also leads teacher trainings to keep prison programs sustainable. In this episode, Lee and Lucy share an honest, heartfelt conversation about her journey, how to be a disruptive force for good and white privilege. She speaks to why she feels an even deeper calling to bring her work to the South and despite the steep learning curve of heading up a non-profit organization, her answer is always, "Why wouldn't I do it?" Her wit, big heart, and advocacy for this traumatized population will leave you inspired and reminded that when we become activated by our passion and purpose, there is no reason NOT to do it! that you're about to meet is an old friend of mine, Lucy Wallace. Lucy was a very passionate

dance teacher who began to feel a little less passionate about her

0:41.7

standard dance teaching once she got connected to the need for dance in women's prisons

0:49.3

and started to take her work into women's prisons. It was not an easy path. It's taken her many years to figure out

0:56.9

how she can do this and to be welcomed to do this.

1:00.0

But it's incredible work that she is doing

1:03.5

and something that she feels so lit up about.

1:06.6

So dance to be free is her organization.

And we had this conversation in July of 2020.

And one of the most exciting things for me in getting to interview you today is I was there at the beginning of you embarking on this journey.
