a biological research center in the rainforest where the family lived.

if they were lucky. But they weren't lucky. Far from it. Midway through the flight with no warning,

the plane broke apart. Julianne was thrown out and suddenly found herself free-falling some 10,000 feet.

The day before her fateful flight, Julianne and her mother had attended her graduation ceremony from high school in Lima, Peru.

They had originally planned to fly home on the 20th of December, but decided to stay a few extra days to attend the ceremony.

A fatal mistake.

If Julianne and her mother had flown on the 20th as planned, then they would have avoided flying with Lanza, a notoriously shady airline.

In the previous five years, two of their planes had crashed due to pilot errors.

They were so distrusted, Julianne's father warned his wife against flying with Lanzah.

But on Christmas Eve, all other flights were booked, leaving them with no other choice

if they wanted to make it home in time for Christmas. Flight 508 had a scheduled stop at Bucalpa,
