0:20.0	The coup attempt resulted in the deaths of over 300 people and over 2,000 people
0:23.9	being wounded. Looking at it from the Air Force side of the house, it fell on both
0:28.7	sides of the coup attempt with F-16s attempting to find, locate, and target and
0:34.1	destroy the presidential plane which had the president on at the time as well as
0:37.6	F-16s trying to protect it.
0:39.3	Two plotters use F-16s to target strategic location and conduct low shows of force with Sonic Booms trying to disrupt and
0:47.1	overthrow the government. Ultimately, they failed. Loyalists quickly responded and were able to
0:52.0	recapture air bases and stop the coup attempt.
0:56.2	But remember, Turkey was in the F-35 program at the time.
0:59.2	They were slated to get their first F-35s in the next couple of years.
1:03.3	In fact, they'd already sent one or two pilots
1:05.9	to the United States to begin training in the F-35.
1:09.3	I was actually in Fort Worth in 2018
1:10.9	and saw the first F-35 going down the line.
1:13.4	It had the Turkish flag on it.
1:15.0	Turkey was ultimately removed from the program
1:17.0	as a result of them aligning more closely with Russia
1:19.6	in trying to buy the S400 surface-air missile system.
