Summary

A study I read recently talked about how vitamin D levels could be linked to depressed teens. A few symptoms linked to a vitamin D deficiency are sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest, loss of concentration, and even thoughts of suicide.

Potential causes of a vitamin D deficiency in teens:

 • Not getting enough sun

 • Not consuming enough vegetables (not enough magnesium)

 • Snacking (insulin resistance blocks vitamin D)

 • A high carb diet (fructose blocks vitamin D)

 • Obesity (increases the need for vitamin D)

 • Darker skin blocks vitamin D absorption

Other symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency:

 • Achy joints

 • Low back pain

 • Lethargy

 • Insomnia

 • Anxiety

Natural remedies:

 • Vitamin D (10,000 IUs)

 • Magnesium

 • Vitamin K2

A few more things for teens to do:

 • Get out in the sun

 • Consume more vegetables

 • Stop snacking (do intermittent fasting)

 • Get on a low-carb diet (healthy keto)

There's another study that I read recently that talks about by the Mindy Levels linked

0:27.0

to depressed teens. So I want to talk about that. One of the symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency

0:34.5

would be sadness, hopelessness, but there's many more too. Loss of interest, loss of concentration,

0:46.4

even thoughts of suicide is linked to a low vitamin D level, which is quite incredible.

0:53.2

The problem is that not only does this involve teens, but it affects everyone. In fact, 75% of the population

1:00.6

has low vitamin D levels. Now, specifically for teens, here's the problem. First of all, they don't

1:08.5

get enough sun. They're indoors on the computer a lot of times. They don't consume enough vegetables

1:16.3

to get magnesium, which is essential for vitamin D to work. So they usually have magnesium

1:22.0

deficiencies as well. Teenagers tend to snack a lot. That creates insulin resistance, which

1:27.6

also blocks vitamin D. They're usually on a high carb diet, which creates insulin resistance,

1:35.9

which blocks vitamin D. And if they're consuming fructose as a high fructose corn syrup, that can

1:42.5

block vitamin D more than glucose, actually. Now, if a teen is overweight or obese, that can

1:50.4

increase the need for vitamin D. So that's going to exaggerate the vitamin D deficiency. And also,

1:55.7

if they have darker skin, that can block vitamin D absorption from the UV light. Now, other symptoms

2:02.1

of a vitamin D deficiency is achy joints, low back pain, lethargy, insomnia, anxiety. So this

2:12.4

is a very, very simple solution to a very big problem. Unfortunately, a lot of kids are then put on

2:20.0

antidepressant medication when I think they should just take some vitamin D. 10,000 I use and I would

2:27.4

also include magnesium with it. I would also include vitamin K2 because all of those together will

2:35.1

enhance the absorption of vitamin D3 and actually greatly elevate the mood. In addition to giving

2:43.0

your teen vitamin D, I would also highly recommend getting them to get up in the sun, consume more
