So today I'm going to talk about low sexual desire or the official

term of hypoactive sexual desire disorder. So this is becoming more and more prevalent as there are now

two FDA approved medications for low sexual desire in women. So hopefully the conversation

about this is just starting. So what is low libido or hypoactive sexual desire disorder?

The abbreviation for that's HSDD.

So technically it has any of the following characteristics for a minimum period of at least six months.

So it has to be kind of a chronic long-term thing, not a short-acting phenomenon. So for at least the last

six months, characterized by lack of motivation for sexual activity characterized by decrease or

absent spontaneous desire, sexual thoughts or fantasies, or decreased or absent responsive

desire to erotic cues or stimulation or inability to maintain desire or interest through sexual activity.

Also a loss of desire to initiate or participate in sexual activity, including behavioral responses,

such as avoiding situations that could lead to sexual activity that is not secondary to sexual pain disorders.

So that's a really important caveat.

For example, I saw somebody in clinic and she's bothered by her low desire for sex.
