In this podcast, I discuss the relationship between a low-fat diet (also called a low-cholesterol diet) and depression. Cholesterol is needed as a precursor, or building block, for critical hormones such as:
Estrogen. Women on their menstrual cycle, or who just gave birth, or are in menopause, can suffer low estrogen and thus feel depressed.
Testosterone: if you’re low in testosterone, you lose your vitality and your mood comes way down.
Cortisol: if your cortisol is low due to low cholesterol, you can’t handle stress well, which triggers anxiety and depression.
