Summary

Author Margaret Atwood’s book The Handmaid’s Tale includes a character who says, “The fact is that I hate this city. I’ve hated it so long I can hardly remember feeling any other way about it.” For some people, this is a daily reality. But Nehemiah loved his city—Jerusalem—though it was a city in shambles. How can we, by God’s grace, learn to love our city for God’s glory?

the city of Jerusalem in Chambles, and he's about to do something to fix it.

So I always, I love going through a series,

but my happy zone is going through a book of the Bible

1:15.7

and camping out in it for a while,

1:18.2

and we'll be doing that in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah.

1:21.5

So make your way over to the book of Nehemiah.

I trust you have a Bible with you.

1:26.5

If not, borrow your neighbors. Yes, you have my permission to do that. I just look over their shoulder and I bet they'll scoot in and let you read it. But we're in Nehemiah chapter 1. If you don't know where that is, it's right after the book of Ezra. So just find that little book, which is right after Second Chronicles. So if you're in the

Old Testament and you fish around and you find Second Chronicles, two blocks to the right, and you'll be

there in Nehemiah chapter one. Let's have a word of prayer as we begin together. Father, we want to
