Maine adds non-binary option to birth certificates.

Now, here's the thing. That would be something we'd most likely have to do retroactively. And non-binary adults, adults that are neither male nor female in Maine can now easily change their birth certificate to reflect their gender status. And that would be an X. That would be the third option on a gender, on the birth certificate, the gender area.
