0:03.4	Today's scripture offers us a wiser way of being human as we step into the day.
0:12.1	Today's passage is one of the most practical roadmaps in the New Testament for what love looks like in real relationships.
0:18.1	And it's especially important for those of you who tend to overgive,
0:22.1	overfunction, or confuse love with self-erasure. Today we're talking about loving without losing
0:28.2	yourself. Today's reading comes from Romans 12, 9 through 18. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil,
0:36.6	cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love.
0:40.8	Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
0:48.1	Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
0:57.0	Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice.
1:03.6	Mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to
1:10.4	associate with people of low position. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.
1:13.4	Do not be conceded. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the
1:21.0	eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Wow, Romans 12 is a mouthful.
1:31.4	It's often read as a list of virtues, but I want you to think of it as more than a list.
1:35.6	It's a description of a formed person, someone whose love is not reactive, not performative,
1:42.2	not performative, not anxious, and not controlling. In other words, Romans 12 is not describing, not performative, not anxious, and not controlling.
1:45.1	In other words, Romans 12 is not describing, quote unquote, nice people.
1:49.7	It's describing people whose love has been shaped by God
1:53.1	into something sturdy, clear, and resilient, and it's powerful.
1:58.2	And that very first line is such a showstopper.
2:03.2	Love must be sincere.
