I know that if I'm in it, someone that looks

like me is going to take the ride through me. I don't want to take them somewhere that they

wouldn't go. When you look at your life, your career, your faith, and everything that you've

navigated, what do you feel like it has all been preparing you for.

Let me tell you about Yvette Nicole Brown. You know her. Of course you know her.

You've been watching her for years in the shows, movies, on the red carpet, on your timeline,

telling the truth about something nobody else wants to touch that week.

She has one of those faces and one of those voices that makes you feel like you've already known her, even

if you've never even met her, which is a gift.

And also, I suspect, attacks.

Because here's what I've been thinking about.

There's a particular kind of black woman in this industry, and Yvette is one of them.

And if I'm being honest, I think I'm trying to be one of them too.

Who has figured out how to be everywhere. Actress, host, advocate, voice of reason on a platform that does not reward reason.

Auntie to the culture. Truth teller when the industry wants a quote and a smile.

Working constantly. Present, constantly, holding the line constantly.

And I want to know what that costs.

That's really what I want to sit with today.
