Today we'll be continuing to talk to my guest, Louise Urchrich, about her newest book, La Rose,

which is published by Harper.

I've chosen this powerful novel as a

bookworm book club selection. La Rose dramatizes the forces of healing and spirituality as they move

from generation to generation through two families. My grandmother lived with my family.

She lived to be over a hundred.

What I know of rabbis and scholars and the devout life came from her.

Otherwise, I wouldn't know it.

In this book, we get very much the sense that the stories of Native American peoples have to travel from

generation to generation or they could get lost. They took children away from their homeschools, and they said,

educate the child, and you will eliminate the Indian.
