Summary

“Don’t take candy from strangers”…We tell the story of Lost Charlie Ross, a child abducted from Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1874. Charlie’s abductors sent multiple ransom notes, but were killed during a separate attempted robbery without ever revealing where Charlie was located. Over the ensuing years, several people claimed to be Charlie Ross, but none of their claims proved true. In a very Strange Familiars twist, while researching the story, Alison found that one boy who was thought, for a time, to be the lost Charlie Ross, lived in our home town! How you doing tonight Allison? I'm well I'm kind of excited about this episode because I would like

1:09.6

to announce that after a long battle of basically attrition on the part of the pair normal,

1:15.7

I think I'm in. Because of what happened during this research. So it was a very strange

1:23.6

familiar thing. The story took a very strange familiar turn. We'll just put it that way.

1:28.1

Partly just because of procrastination because we were ready to do this episode on Sunday or Monday

1:33.6

and I was like I'm too tired. I don't feel prepared. Just give me another day to get some more

1:38.4

notes together. And then this whole other weird aspect added. Yeah.

1:43.8

Tonight's story started with tonight's photo of the week. I got this card and it had this

1:55.5

person's name on it. So I did a quick search as I'm want to do and sure enough it turned up in

2:02.4

pretty incredible story. It's a story that we wanted to start with the old adage we all heard

2:08.3

it when we were kids. Don't take candy from strangers. No, I felt this was just general common sense

2:15.2

right that your parents said and it's something that somebody's parents said to them and got pissed.

2:20.2

But it turns out this this race has a kind of origin. Yeah, I thought in my mind I kind of

2:26.5

added it to like the great 70s and 80s trick-or-treat candy apples with razor blades kind of

2:32.8

phenomenon. So in my mind, candy from strangers was just bad generally. Right, except

2:38.0

in Halloween. Except in Halloween when it's totally fine. In the same way it's like don't sit on

2:41.7

all men's laps, except for a Christmas time. You know, right. Holiday seemed to be exempt from

2:47.2

basic social moratism. Don't sit on all the man's lap unless he's wearing a funny costume.
