What has great cities of America indeed like many great cities these days troubled city but comotv has gone against the grain they produced a documentary entitled Seattle is dying.

And we're going to play a few clips from it and and discuss I remember going to Seattle the first time.

15 years ago maybe and thinking why doesn't everybody live here right this is fantastic bit of a lack of sunshine some might answer but it's an absolutely wonderful city or was but the point of this documentary.

Is that and we've talked about this for a long time and anybody who lives particularly in a bigger metro area in a blue state or well you know most big metro cities are blue areas even within red states.

You understand the idea of when what I often describe as utopian.

We all should love each other policies run up against the hard realities of human nature.

The great liberal bashed in Berkeley California for instance where you know you're practically a hero for being a bum so soft or the policies on homeless.

That's a very good way to put it I've been in city council meetings where it definitely feels like that's the vibe right there a hero you're a bad person right for having a job or having a business or paying your taxes or whatever they've run up against the reality so hard that even berserkerly California said all right you got to get off business doorsteps you can't be pooping on the street you can't camp here this is insane you can't frighten people right right yeah but this is a brilliantly done documentary and we're going to play you.

A handful of clips go ahead Sean number one let me ask you something what if Seattle is dying and we don't even know it this story is about a seething simmering anger that is now boiling over into outrage it is about people who have felt compassion yes but who no longer feel safe no longer feel like they are heard no longer feel protected it is about lost souls who wander our streets untethered to home or family or reality.

Chasing a drug which in turn chases them it is about the damage they inflict on themselves to be sure but also on the fabric of this place where we live this story is about a beautiful jewel that has been violated and a crisis of faith amongst a generation of sea satellites falling out of love with their home.

Wow a lot of that sounds like what I said at a city council meeting for my own town where I said is this a better place to live now than it was 20 years ago or worse who could possibly say it's better right or or or not getting worse and people like your accused of having a lack of compassion here is a woman a frequent victim of crime who was seeking some well redress of regreances in front of the Seattle city council.

There is evolved a profound disconnect and rarely has it been more vividly laid out than in this exchange.

If property crime is committed violence is committed you need to call 911 and the police.

You've lost all credibility when you say you said two words you said call 911 do you understand that the police have told us to vote you all out so that they can't do it.

They can do their jobs and you're telling us call 911 you're smiling because that gets funny.

Who think is funny the way we're living.

The idea that if policies surround you the result of the policies are being surrounded by lawlessness criminality drug abuse needles parks you can't go to with your kids.

But look call the police as opposed to changing the governance it's it's it's obscene it's terrible my wife in our situation called the police is recently is like a month ago now I guess in the police say we can't do anything.
