Lori Ramos Lemasters is the founder of Care Partners Resource and Consulting and a certified Journal to the Self ® Therapeutic Writing Instructor. She cared for her parents the last eight years of their lives and uses that experience to teach caregivers the benefits of using therapeutic journal writing to manage the challenges of caring for a loved one. Lori is an author, with publications under the last names of Lemasters and Cavallo. She has partnered with many local and national organizations to teach therapeutic journaling to caregivers.

Lori created Caregivers Tuesday Talks Outside the Box and in conjunction with AARP Care-FULL Conversations both are available on Care Partners Resource YouTube Channel. Most recently Lori has published a book "You’re a Caregiver, Not a Saint: Yeah Write" which is available on Amazon or on the Care Partners Resource website.

0:54.0	Great. Thanks for having me, Lance.
0:56.7	That was a mouthful, huh? Yes, yes. And so, Lori, tell us a little bit about your background and
1:03.9	how you got involved in this therapeutic journaling and starting the care partner's resource and
1:09.7	consulting. Sure. So, you know, I like many
1:15.8	caregivers sort of stumbled into this whole caregiving world, right? I was going about my life
1:24.7	as a mortgage broker for about 30 years and got that call in the middle of the
1:29.4	night from my eldest brother telling me that my mom had survived a massive stroke.
1:35.1	And she was the caregiver to my stepdad who was on dialysis. And so we had to make,
1:42.1	I'm the only one who lived out of state, but I was also the only one who made the choice to go ahead and move in with them and take care of them so that they didn't have to go into a long-term care facility.
1:56.7	And that process lasted.
2:00.1	Let's see, my dad was alive for about three years after my mom's stroke. And then my mom lived another five years. So through that process, there were a lot of emotional struggles, right? That happened when you're caring for a loved one. I had to move 1,200 miles away from my son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren and my support system that was here in Colorado.
