During the Second World War, those haunting words,

Germany Calling, Germany Calling,

opened Nazi propaganda broadcasts to Britain by an individual referred to as Lord Hojo.

However, the nasally sinister and at times hypnotic voice speaking from deep in Hitler's third Reich was actually his raised in the west of Ireland ended up as Hitler's most famous English language propagandist is fascinating.

From a childhood in Galway where he acted as a scout for the notorious Black and Tans.

William Joyce would go on to be suspected of involvement in one of the most notorious incidents

of the Irish War of Independence while still a teenager.

His life, however, is intriguing and in this

podcast we will follow William Joyce into the upheaval that followed the end of

the First World War in Ireland and then to Britain where he was drawn to extreme fascism and eventually to Nazi Germany.
