The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in, but that doesn't mean there's not loads to enjoy in the garden over the next few months.

For me, this time of year in the garden means clearing up, getting ready for spring,

and best of all, and this is loads and loads of fun, going through the seed catalogues over and over,

eventually get my order in and eagerly await the arrival of the seeds, which I shall store under the bed, nice and dry until next year. And that's why I love this time of year.

It's a great time to plan ahead, so that's why I wanted to get tips from a leading garden designer.

Along paths is a really good place to put sense as you're walking to and from maybe the gate to the front door. That's a really key journey, probably daily, where you can encounter and interact with scent. Get inspiration from a wonderful winter garden. With the leaves off the trees, one really appreciates the bark and its colour and texture,

and I find that a very attractive part of the gardens.
