So this source of joy that Jesus gives us, the source of that joy is not simply that there

is a Son of God who has, for some reason, come into the flesh.

The great source of joy, the source of joy for the Christian, is that the Son of God

came into the flesh for you.

That this very universe was created for you and that when you were lost in its fallenness,

Jesus Christ came into this world, gave up his life upon the cross,

and rose from the grave.

Give the Father God of grace, and with all on fallen grace,

The hymn, oh, how great is your compassion. Well, we see compassion in the gospel reading for this coming Sunday, the 11th Sunday after Trinity, where in Luke 18, Jesus tells about the

compassion shown to a tax collector who declares himself to be the sinner
