This is the political silly season. For instance, currently a candidate called D's Nuts,

he says he's a high school sophomore, is running strong in North Carolina. At this point,

in the 2008 presidential race, Rudolph Giuliani was the GOP's top polling candidate. To quote the sage,

polls are stupid. But a former Obama speechwriter named John Lovett took a different tack and penned a bit of

speculative fiction for the Atlantic. It's not about any particular candidate. Well, obviously, it is, but it's much more about our own personal responsibility as news producers and news consumers for the state of our media and our nation.

It takes the degradation of our political culture and its coverage to one possible conclusion.
