Tesla kicks us off today, preparing to launch a longer wheelbase variant of the Model Y in China

before the end of 2025, making a move to address declining sales in the world's largest

EV market. The new Model YL, as it is called, in regulatory filings, because Tesla has to apply for a

license, and so thanks to the Chinese ministry, they get to leak of these details. This wasn't

a glitzy launch with Elon Musk on stage or anything. This information came out. Caughts

all by surprise.

The Model YL represents the long version, and this aligns with Chinese consumer preferences for more

spacious vehicles. The most notable change is the addition of the third row seating, a six-seat

configuration in three rows of two.

Now, to accommodate the layout, Tesla has extended the wheelbase by 150 millimeters, that's six inches, to over three meters.

It's now 3,040 millimeters.

It's actually longer than a Model X wheelbase by quite some margin, actually.
