All right. This is going to be a long run episode of Dr. Tim Nokes and for people that are new to the show or maybe

0:07.8

are just tuning in for this show what we do is two different kinds of episodes. One is a serious long one-on-one discussion with a runner or

0:16.0

someone that I find interesting. The other is a gang show where it's just a whole bunch of people

0:20.7

sitting around talking about whatever.

0:22.7

It's kind of like what would happen if you and your friends went running and taped the whole thing.

0:27.7

So this is the prior, this is a serious one-on-one interview and Dr. Nokes is someone that I've admired. He's

0:34.0

someone whose books I've read. He's written a book called Waterlogged. He's

0:38.1

written a book called Law of Nutrition. Most importantly he's written a book

0:42.2

called Law of Running which is pretty much one of the the big Bibles of running it breaks basically it starts with like what is a muscle and it just goes all the way to everything you could ever imagine about running.

0:54.4

A lot of people cite to that as, you know, the authoritative book for, you know, their development as a runner.

1:01.4

Either way, he's one of the most accomplished scientists in the area of endurance athletics,

1:12.0

also in the area of diet and nutrition and that's kind of where he becomes

1:16.8

embroiled into controversy to some extent.

1:19.7

In so far as later in his life he adopted the low-carb high-fat diet and get some shit for it and it's

1:27.9

it's kind of bizarre that he went from this you know thought of as this great scientist to as soon as people disagreed with him about nutrition, as you do, big controversy.

1:40.0

And in fact, this lore of nutrition book, which I just got done finished reading is about him basically

1:46.3

give we talk about it in the interview but it's about his nutrition theory being on trial

1:52.2

kind of through a kind of backdoor through this woman who he gave

1:58.0

advice to on Twitter we'll get into that you can hear about that but I assure you he is a scientist on the highest level

2:06.1

he's actually performed studies and he founded the Sports Science Institute in South

2:12.3

Africa he's the gold standard he's one of the founded the Sports Science Institute in South Africa.

2:13.0

He's the gold standard.
