Today we're returning to Max Freedom Long, who wrote this amazing book about Kahuna

Magic called The Secret Science Behind Miracles. In a previous episode, we explored the secret within the secret, which

discussed the concept of the higher self as it's discussed in Kahuna lore. Max Freedom-Malong was

an elementary school teacher who moved to Hawaii and started to notice that the natives there used magic.

He didn't believe in it.

And then started to see that it was very powerful and successful and dedicated his life to

studying the different techniques that they used.

Now today I want to read about Lomi Lomi, which is the laying on of hands, the life-giving secret

and power of using the hands to heal.

I've explored this subject previously in one of my favorite episodes, Sidney Welmmer,

How to Heal with Your Hands.

Frederick Dotson also recently wrote a book about how to heal with the hands.

And the more and more I learn and study healing, I've found that I have to use my hands.

They become a focal point for the energies that I'm trying to use.

And so it's good to study Lomi Lomi, which is one of the original practices in Kahuna culture in healing.

Long begins by saying, in this chapter I wish to discuss the simpler healing methods used by

the Kahunas and to point out ways in which we can all profit greatly by their knowledge and

experience. In Hawaii and throughout Polynesia at a very early date,

according to the semi-historical legends of the South Seeds,

the healers often made use of physical manipulation as an aid to what might be called mental healing.

This manipulation was called Lomi Lomi and was a combination of massage, bathing, and deep manipulation.
