Summary

The Cavaliers decided that one trade was not enough, firing off a series of moves that have completely transformed their roster. They got younger and fast, but this still doesn't guarantee a trip back to the Finals, or that LeBron will stay in Cleveland beyond June. The Warriors stood pat at the deadline despite inquiring about players such as Avery Bradley and Marco Bellinelli. They could potentially pick up Joe Johnson off waivers if his is bought out by the Kings, but the Celtics and Rockets are also in contention for the veteran's services. If the Warriors do pick up Johnson, they will have three former All-Stars coming off the bench along with Andre Iguodala and David West, in addition to the four current All-Stars starting for the team. Tonight the Warriors face the Mavericks at home, potentially without Kevin Durant, who is nursing a left hand contusion. Dallas is hurting as well, and could be without Harrison Barnes, their leading scorer tonight. The Mavs jettisoned Devin Harris at the deadline in favor of Doug McDermott, who may or may not be available to play tonight. Around the NBA, the Jazz and Knicks made moves at key positions, while the Clippers signed Lou Williams to a new three-year deal rather than trading him. They also held onto DeAndre Jordan. The Celtics kept Marcus Smart and Atlanta elected not to trade Marco Bellinelli. The Lakers transformed by picking up Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye, while also opening up some cap space for the summer. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Greetings Hoops Heads, welcome to Locked-on Warriors, part of the Locked-on Podcast Network.

It's Thursday, February 8th. I'm your host, Aliko Carter. And it's deadline day and some

0:40.0

craziness this deadline day, especially in regards to the Cavaliers who are performing some sort

0:46.7

of fire sale, it seems. It's not clear if they're building for now or building for the future,

0:51.9

but they've blown up the roster. They sent D-Wa

0:55.3

back to Miami. They got Rodney Hood and George Hill. They sent away D. Rose. They sent away IT.

1:03.0

And D. Rose went to the jazz. He's going to be waived and could end up with the Timberwolves.

1:07.5

Isaiah Thomas was sent to the Lakers. So the Cavaliers pickup scoring in Rodney Hood and a nice

1:17.6

option at point guard in George Hill, definitely better than a league average point guard.

1:24.0

But almost just as quickly as the IT era in the land began, it's just over.

1:29.9

And not very often do you see a player who was a star for the Lakers, then go and become a star

1:34.7

for the Celtics, uh, vice versa, excuse me, a star for the Celtics, go and become a star for

1:39.9

the Lakers.

1:40.9

Uh, but IT is definitely in greener pastures now, I think. The dysfunction of the

1:46.7

Cavaliers is behind him. And, you know, a coach in Luke Walton who will be patient with him

1:53.2

as he gets back to full strength from that hip injury. He said he's only at about 80%. It's clear

1:59.8

he's only at about 80%. And we'll see if he can

2:03.3

bring it back up. And the Lakers who are on a nice little streak of play right now, they're not

2:09.7

going to make the playoffs this year. But you know, you got to wonder, especially with free agency

2:13.1

coming up, if they can make some moves, they're going to be, you know, certainly a very formidable

2:18.7

opponent come next year. And we're going to get into all of the trade deadline news. First, we're
